Doing In RPGs
I may expand on this later, but the question that
mnemex said is crucial to playing is "What do you want to do?"
Or, he could expand on it. It's sort of an independent invention of E. M. Forster's take on novels and stories.

The basic concept is that if its being played at all, you should be doing something -- you (if not your character) should have some dramatic, strategic, or whatnot goal served by a scene rather than it being there because "its what happens next".
This may be more wishy-washy than what I actually said, though, and my initial ideas are more likely to be right, even when they're wrong.
