A Request

Occasionally, I am clueless. There have been a couple of times I've discovered I've been doing something at a convention gaming table that folks wished I wouldn't have. In both cases, it was something easily under my control, and something I would have had no objection to stopping.

In both cases, the reason I did not stop is that no one told me there was a problem. In one case, since I did not know there was a problem, I then did exactly the same thing at a later game at the same convention. There were two players from the previous game who now had to put up with this for a total of eight hours. Such is truly not my wish. I found out after the convention that there was an issue by reading write ups on various forums.

In the other case, I found out months after the fact, and almost by accident.

Guys, for the love of whatever deities or principles you hold dear, I really would like the opportunity to stop doing these things at the beginning of the game. Actually, I would prefer to have enough of a clue not to do them in the first place, but if I don't manage that, please let me know.

Ah, but politely asking you not to do something might be considered rude and lead to a big fight at the table, which would be worse than tolerating whatever thing you were doing. Since people can't be sure that you won't flip out and ruin the game they consider it a safer gamble to have marginally less fun rather than have the game flame out in an embarrasing shouting fest and have no fun at all.

As to why they don't mention it to you after the game so you know not to do it in the future, hey, when are they ever gonna see you again? Better to grouse about it later with total strangers. That's the point where my argument loses whatever steam it had, but I'm pretty sure that's the argument.

If you really want this to be effective you might need to announce it to each table at the con.
