Larps, Databases, Thumbs, PCs
Jan. 13th, 2007 07:37 pmI think I'm working on 3 larps at once. There's Dark of the Moon, which
mnemex says is probably ideally a 2 day game, rather than a full weekend game. There's the prequel to that, a 4 hour teaser game, set in the same world, but with none of the same characters, so that no one worries about pre-determining ends or players confused if the big game has a different back history than the little game. We have to do a teaser to test all the systems stuff we've been arguing about.
Spreadsheets are fine for the little game, I think. Hm, I'll need to do a Senses spreadsheet. Or -- no, 3 columns, main spreadsheet, I think.
For the big game,
mnemex is trying to get a database built. The tricky part is the spreadsheet that can get pushed into the database with what each character thinks or would think of each other character. So, a row of the first character's name as many times minus one as there are PCs in the game. Repeat with second, third, and so on.
Then, where you have the first character's name, a list of each character except the first, and so on down the list. This is the part mnemex is having trouble finding the right formula for.
Meanwhile, we have admitted that, as we do not want to cut the animals, they will have to be able to talk to everyone. C'est la vie. Now, mnemex wants them to have opposable thumbs.
zrealm and I so do not, on the grounds that letting them talk already makes them feel too much like humans in funny suits. We'll need to see what the rest of the team thinks.
At this point, cutting a character is already tricky, because of the ripple effect. But, I think there's one PC we can and should cut. I hope everyone else agrees.
Michael Miller, you are my hero.
