12 character meme
Name 12 characters you have played in RPGs, before looking at the questions that follow. List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with the name of the RPG you played them in. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!) Put your answers behind a LJ-cut.
1. Chrysanthemum (Feng Shui, insane mathematician and sorceress)
2. Alphonse (Hub/OTE, 14-year-old kid in James Schmidt's sf Hub universe)
3. Freiderich Drachensblut (D&D 3.5, sorcerer)
4. Marius Lecks (Hub/OTE, combat doctor in James Schmidt's sf Hub universe)
5. Roggerio (ArsM/Mystica, musician and former diabolist)
6. Justin Thorne (OTE, actor, director, and all around weird guy)
7. Adlavya (octaNe, an entertainer)
8. Henry "Sticks" Tyler (TFT, reporter in a pulp universe)
9. Sir Lammorack (TFT, crusading adrenaline junkie in a pulp universe)
10. Sir Myron (Pendragon, Jewish knight)
11. Daphne (Fudge, sickly moody Goth teenager and poet)
12. Joanna Amundsen (CoC, librarian at Miskatonic University)
1) Who would make a better college professor: 6 (Justin), or 11 (Daphne)?
Justin, who's actually taught a seminar. Of course, that was the seminar he had something of a nervous breakdown without realizing it, and the seminar was in head games. Daphne would try to teach folks to write Goth poetry.
2) Do you think 2 (Alphonse) is hot? How hot?
Not really. He's an awkward 14 year old. 9 (Lammorak) is dashing. 5 (Roggerio) would like to be, but someone else is always hotter. 6 (Justin) is surprised when people find him sexy, but it seems to happen. 4 (Marius) is an action hero and a paladin in his way, and his fiance finds him sexy, which is quite sufficient. 7 (Vladya) is extremely sexy, if you're of the right species.
3) 12 (Joanna) sends 8 (Henry "Sticks" Tyler) on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?
It would probably involve research or interviewing, since he's a newspaper reporter, and it would probably succeed, although there might be a lot of lead in the air first, perhaps a deathtrap or two.
4) What is, or would be, 9 (Sir Lammorak)'s favorite book?
Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, naturally.
5) Would it make more sense for 2 (Alphonse) to swear fealty to 6 (Justin), or the other way around?
That'd be weird, but it would make more sense for Alphonse to swea. He's younger and more of a follower.
6) For some reason, 5 (Roggerio) is looking for a room-mate. Should they share a studio apartment with 9 (Henry "Sticks" Tyler), or 10 (Sir Lammorak)?
10 (Sir Lammorak), as he has an archaic code of honor, making him fit in fine with Roggerio, who wants to be a better person. 9 (Sticks) would probably love to do an expose about Roggerio's sordid past.
7) 2, 7, and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?
That's Alphonse (a competent, but awkward, 14-year-old), Adlavya (a talking, singing, dancing bear), and Joanna (a non-glamorous librarian). Alphonse isn't picky, so Joanna likely takes them to a genteel speak easy, where Adlavya joins the musicians as a dancer. Joanna's the one most likely to run into trouble -- well, actually, they're all likely to run into trouble. Alphonse is the most likely to spot it coming.
8) 3 (Freideriche Drachensblut) challenges 10 (Sir Myron) to a duel. What happens?
Why a sorcerer would challenge a puissant knight to a duel is beyond me. Sir Myron would likely wipe the floor with him, since, if it's a formal challenge, it's not likely to be to the death. If it were, Freideriche would let loose with a Fireball or Scorching Ray, preferably casting True Strike first. I think Sir Myron would escape by the grace of God. Hm. Freideriche is a dragon heart sorcerer, and knights do traditionally fight dragons....
9) If 1 (Chrysanthemum) stole 8's (Henry "Sticks" Tyler) most precious possession, how would they get it back?
That would be a the first donut his editor gave him for doing something really good. Sticks had it bronzed. He'd sneak in and take it, or hunt for evidence and have her arrested. Probably the first. Possibly in company of his friends. And, she'd probably come in when they were in the middle of it and try to explain that she needed it for complex mathematical reasons. And then, a ton of mooks would attack, and they'd have to team up to defeat them.
10) Suggest a title for a story in which 7 (Adlavya) and 12 (Joanna) both attain what they most desire.
Maybe "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" or "Revenge of the Luchadores", where Adlavya wins the love of the luchadore she loves and Joanna achieves a sense of safety, probably because the luchadore and the rest of Adlavya's friends make her world safe. Oh, and the luchadore's kitten is important, because the cats are always the good guys in a Lovecraft tale.
11) What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4(Marius Lecks) and 1(Chrysanthemum) to work together?
They happen to be in the same place at the same time when the mooks attack. It could be a medical conference, a resort, a cruise ship, a Feng Shui site -- either way, both have plenty of accomodating enemies. Alternatively, Leck's friend Jealousy, a private detective, could hire him to help her find Chrysanthemum.
12) If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?
That's Adlavya. If the rules were from her reality, she'd teach me to fight, we'd defeat a bunch of bad guys, and go to Jeollado's, eating sushi and singing karoke to celebrate. If the rules were from my reality, we'd probably still get along fine, but it would be quieter. Maybe we'd hold a housefilk.
13) If you could command 3 (Freideriche Drachensblut) to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?
Escorting me and perhaps friends somewhere dangerous.
14) Does anyone on your friends list resemble 11 (Daphne) (either in appearance or personality)?
A sickly Goth teenager, who's depressed and writes good poetry? Actually, no.
15) If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be?
Alphonse choosing sides between Marius and Roggerio. He'd choose Marius, who is from the same universe, and the same planet, and who's upholding the standards of ethics and competence Alphonse adheres to. Well, unless some force is currently controlling Marius, which isn't all that likely, and is outside the bounds of the questions.
16) What might 10 (Sir Myron) shout while charging into battle?
"For God and King Arthur!" or "Oy vey. What am I thinking?" Nah, he'd shout the first, even if he thought the second.
17) If you chose a song to represent 8 (Henry "Sticks" Tyler), which song would you choose?
Kipling's poem, "The Press", for which Leslie Fish wrong music.
18) 1 (Chrysantheumum), 6 (Justin), and 12 (Joanna) are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?
1 (Crysantheumum). She's probably the fastest, and she can use her sorcery to make there be less space between her and the pancake. Justin tends to be chivalrous, and he and Joanna both try to be polite. Chrysantheumum does too, but she's often too weird to be polite, and, anyway, if the others let her have it, it's not efficient to argue the point. She might suggest dividing it three ways, and if she did, she'd make sure that they were mathematically precise thirds.
19) What might be a good pick-up line for 2 (Alphonse) to use on 10 (Sir Myron)?
Wow. My head hurts just thinking about it. Alphonse is 14, socially awkward, from a high tech world, and probably straight. Sir Myron is a middle aged Jewish knight, one of thirty characters the gm had available for an epic adventure at Origins. A lot of people assumed he was homosexual, she said, but there was no hard evidence. Given what his character sheet did and didn't say, I figured that he was probably straight, but hadn't met the right Jewish woman yet. Also, he probably sent out the wrong signals. The gm told me that this was what she'd intended, adding that a) people assumed that he had to be sleeping with -someone- given how he always knew the latest gossip (his intrigue score was just high), b) he tended to stand closer to people and be more comfortable with casual touching (due to earlier training as an actor), and c) the women at court correctly figured that he was "safe" to be around. Alphonse's best bet would probably be, "I need assistance", since, as a knight, Sir Myron is supposed to assist those in need, though exactly where Alphonse'd go from there is beyond me.
20) What would 5 (Roggerio) most likely be arrested for?
Diabolism or heresy.
21) What is 6's (Justin) secret?
Which one? It kind of depends on who you are. Justin is, in no particular order, bisexual, living with another man, the father of his sister's child, a magically talented maker, one of the three postal mages that keep the mail going, at least partly responsible for deaths caused by a terrorist's bomb, definitely responsible for blowing up lifeboats, partly responsible for breaking whales out of captivity, endowed with gills, raising his best friend's child (who has a very odd handicap), and an author under the pseudonym Xena Thorndyke. The most amusing one is that he's responsible for the lizards on the Israeli submarine he piloted. They spontaneously generated when he was bored. He started working on a novel to make sure that the problem would stop, and he hopes that his CO never ever finds out that he was responsible.
22) If 11 (Daphne) and 9 (Sir Lammorak) were racing to a destination, who would get there first?
Sir Lammorak. He's in much better shape than Daphne, who wouldn't see the point of it anyway, unless she decided to travel astrally, in which case, she might beat him, but only if she can travel faster than he can that way, which I don't know.
23) If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 (Adlavya) or 8 (Henry "Sticks" Tyler)?
Probably Adlavya, who probably discourages trouble just by being there. Hard to beat a sentient bear for that. Sticks looks a little like a target, though he's less of one than he seems.
24) 1 (Chrysanthemum) and 9 (Sir Lammorak) reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4's (Marius Lecks) sinister secret organization. 11 (Daphne) volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he/she is actually a spy for 4. Meanwhile, 4 has kidnapped 12 (Joanna) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (Roggerio), they seek out 3 (Freiderich Drachensblut), who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic?
Huh. Okay, Chrysanthemum and Sir Lammorak teaming up is a natural. I'm not sure what kind of sinister secret society Marius has. Maybe someone's mind controlling him, or maybe all of Pscyhology (aka the Psicops) has gone corrupt, or maybe he's decided that the universe would be better off with him in charge. Okay, I could see him employing Daphne, no problem, though it is a bit weird. I can't see him expecting anyone to surrender because he kidnapped someone. It just doesn't happen, so it's probably a diversion for something else. (Well, okay, technically, it does happen, but Marius is from a planet that does not believe in giving in to the demands of kidnappers. Ever.) Maybe he needs Joanna's research skills or something. Maybe Roggerio figures this out and decides that a lot of firepower is appropriate. Freiderich can provide that, as he loves fire magic. Title: Hm. Maybe "Not Another Pyramid Scheme!" One of the dangers of the Hub universe is an evil psychic controlling other psychics who control other people, i.e., a pyramid scheme.
1. Chrysanthemum (Feng Shui, insane mathematician and sorceress)
2. Alphonse (Hub/OTE, 14-year-old kid in James Schmidt's sf Hub universe)
