Name 12 characters you have played in RPGs, before looking at the questions that follow. List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with the name of the RPG you played them in. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!)

1. James Firemaker (cthulhupunk -- homebrew combining Nightlife, CoC, OTE, etc) Trickster shaman, spy and spymaster, and apache Indian. also, more than 200 years old.
2. Regina Norton (cthulhupunk) Mother, former druggie and hippie, crow shaman, guide, The Traveller.
3. Li Kao(pulp OTE, then Two Fisted Tales), immortal wierd inventor, can't remember more than 100 years of his millenia-long life, martial artist.
4. Sky (Everway), kick-ass fighter raised by wolves. Young.
5. Manifold (Everway), peternaturally slowly aging child magician; actual age around 26.
6. Jealousy Jones (Hub: OTE/Federation of the Hub (ie, Schmitz)), detective, gadgeteer, and daredevil photographer. Early to Mid 20s.
7. Michael Conoway (Altclair -- OTE/mystically wierd university), magician, fencer, perpetual student, polygamist, comitted catholic, quasi-saint, land king. Early 20s, with 4 or more kids.
8. Thalia (played NPC in Altclair), sentient theatre building.
9. Heart of Peacemaker (Everway), magical princess
10. Pauline Alton (Two Fisted Tales), 1930s socialite, acrobatic vigilante, and mayoral hopeful.
11. Coravin (D&D 3.5) chaotic good arcane trickster with ambitions to entertain, with a little dark side. Elf.
12. Cassidy O'Hare (Altclair) journalist and dolphin-person; very strong and fast, with mostly well-controlled siren song and a lot of relatives she never knew she had.


Questions & Answers:

1. Who would make a better professor? 6 or 11? (Jealousy Jones or Coravin?) Well, Coravin's more studious, and they're both well-educated characters in their field of study, but I'd have to go with Jealousy for pure Indiana Jones style archological adventuring. Coravin's more likely to entertain his class via juggling fireballs or some complicated example involving magic and a piece of rope than actually teach them something.

2. Do you think 2 is hot? How hot? (Regina) Regina is very hot, if in a MILF sortof way. She started out fannishly out of shape, but with a good additude and a lot of experience; since then, she's gotten a lot more in shape due to lessons from the Morrigan/Morgan Le Fey/Anna (the same person) and Bear/King Arthur, plus ginormous time spent wandering the folds in the world and solving problems. Though some of her habits (early: drugs, compulsive cooking, and cooking with drugs; late, shiny things, turning into a crow, and looking at eyeballs like food) might turn some people off.

3. 3 sends 8 on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed? (Li Kao, Thalia) Oy, vey, have you got the wrong vampire. I mean, of all the characters involved, Thalia, a sentient magical theatre building, is probably the least likely to be sent on a mission, and Li Kao, while having grey eminence potential due to his "ancient chinese guy" looks, his smarts, and his advanced age, tends to be just too kooky for it. But if he were to send her on a mission, sure it would succeed -- Thalia knows theatre, and she's sure of her foundations, so she's unlikely to walk into a tragedy. She'd probably recruit a lot of her friends as allies while her mobile puppet moved from scene to situation, and maybe end the thing by luring the bad guys into herself, where she had the home ground advantage. Probably long on scenery, with lots of other stuff built on the base plot (as a building, Thalia's unlikely to want any land lying fallow).

4. What is, or would be 9's favorite book? (Heart of Peacemaker). As a genuine fairy tale princess, Heart would prefer something morally upright, with lots of problem solving. Probably Cyrion -- Tanith Lee's pulpish, but self-aware hero is the right sort to intrigue and interest her.

5. Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around? (Regina Norton, Jealousy Jones). Hmm. Two travelling women, one a postmodern shaman, one a starfaring gadgeteer detective and daredevil photographer. Ignoring the tech gap, I'd have to go with Jealousy swearing fealty to Regina -- Regina's older, more stable, and more mature. Plus Regina's son is lord of his own demense, which in an odd way outranks Jealosy's status as senator's daughter.

6) For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Who should they share with, 9 or 10? (Manifold, Heart of Peacemaker, Pauline Alton) Despite Manifold being substantually older than (and looking substantually younger than) Heart, I think she's a better fit than someone from another universe with nothing in common at all. And they can spend their idle hours discussing magic -- despite her more sophisitcated manner, Manifold's approach to magic is easily intuitive enough, having evolved from her substantia 4-year-old efforts, for the two of them to have something in common.

7. 2, 7, and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss? (Regina, Michael, Cassidy) This would be a fun conversation. Michael would clearly host -- eithr cooking or prevailing upon Regina or his wives to cook. Michael and Cassidy, of course, already know one another (they were even subject of a love spell briefly). And Regina's world is similar enough to theirs -- they'd probably discuss magic, mythology, history, their personal adventures, kids, etc. The conversation would likely go on into the night, with Michael holding court, but deferring to (and possibly trying to seduce) Regina.

8) 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens? (Li Kao, Pauline Alton) Classic. Li Kao completes his greatest creation yet -- a magnificent fighting machine. Whom should he test it against but the acrobatic speed of his friend, socialite vigilante Pauline? At first, the device seems like it will defeat the vigilante -- it's strength and mechanical speed informed by centuries-old chinese kung fu techniques. However, at the last moment, the Avenging Angel, who had seemed defeated, runs up the device's arm, jumps, and kicks, causing the machine's arm to develop a large crack, exposing it's primary flaw -- the inability to adjust to changing circumstances. With its physical and mental weaknesses exposed, the remainder of the battle is short, brutal, and one sided. Is Li Kao dismayed? Certainly not -- he is already, as he congratulates the winner, dreaming of new ideas for how to solve the problem.

9. If 1 stole 8's most precious posession, how would they get it back? (Firemaker, Thalia) Firemaker, presumably, would have stolen Thalia's mobile -- a manequin that allows her to, seeming a humanoid shape interact outside her own borders. Thalia would invite him over and dramatically plea for its return -- or have it make an escape, or have her friends set out on a quest to rescue it.

10. Suggest a title for a story wherin 7 and12 both attain what they most desire. (Michael and Cassidy) Hmm. Another same-U story. Michael pretty much always gets what he most desires anyway (however much it bites him) -- he's a powerful mage in a world where magery more or less means "what you most desire happens". Cassidy wants...an exclusive column as foreign correspondant for a major vehicle, more or less. And a Pulitzer. I'm pretty sure you don't get this stuff without a major war somewhere. Cassidy's very sea-aspected, since she's ended up being a selkie with mermaid powers, and Michael's a land king. So I guess it would have to be called "A Sea Son of War."

11. What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 1 and 4 to work together? (Firemaker, Sky). I'd probably make up an alternative version of Sky who grew up, raised by wolves, in a remote corner of the post-semi-apocalyptic world Firemaker inhabits. He'd find her, having run into something she recognized as too magical to deal with alone, and they'd work together to defeat it.

12. If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along? Famously. Regina's a great cook, and easy to get along with. Sure, she's a bit scary and dangerous at times, but she's at heart one of "our people" -- a geek who's gone to pennsic, spent a number of years in a pagan circle, living in NYC, etc. She doesn't even have any major bad habits, though I'd want to keep an eye on the sparklies.

13. If you could command 3 to perform any task or serice for you, what would it be? (Li Kao) That's easy -- make me a flying machine! Or some kind of vehicle, anyways. Well, that's the more obvious one -- the less obvious one is "bring me the ancient ones' immortality technology" -- but that would be something he's be less likely to be able to accomplish it, for a number of reasons.

14. Does anyone on your friends list resemble 11 (either in appearance or personality)? (Coravin) I'm embarassed to say that I'm probably the closest (yeah, like many of us, I'm on my own friends list). D&D characters tend to be pretty avatar. Probably a few others, too.

15. If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be? (Regina, Sky, Manifold) Probably Sky -- Manifold is a bit full of herself and hyperdefensive, but Sky's a lot more sensible -- and Regina's a good judge of character. But it's possible that Manifold would be pushing based on greater knowledge.

16. What might 10 shout while charging into battle? Pauline, as Avenging Angel, prefers to attack silently. She had a lot of bad luck with open attacks early in her career. But if she were to shout something, it would probably be "Justice!"

17) If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose? "There's no Business like Show Business". Obviously.

18) 1, 6, and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it? (Firemaker, Jealousy, Cassidy). In any just world, Cassidy would -- she's the fastest by far. But in the real word (as it were), Firemaker would manage to distract the other two, despite Casidy's delphine hearing and Jelousy's gadgets, and get halfway through the pancake before the others caught on. He's like that.

19) What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10? (Regina, Pauline Alton). "I'm sorry about all those lousy relationships. Have you considered trying something...different?"

20) What would 5 most likely be arrested for? (Manifold) Corrupting the morals of an adult. Or curfew breaking (whell, she -is- a 26ish year old in a 9ish year old body...).

21) What is 6's secret? (Jealousy) Monarch -- an intelligent starship they both consider her daughter. And the fact that she was involved in smoking out an alien invasion force a few years ago.

22) If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first? (Coravin and Heart) Depends. Coravin has taken to shrinking down and riding on his bat famiiar, but Heart might be able to use magic to cheat, whereas Coravin doesn't have any useful transport spells.

23) If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 or 8? (Michael, Thalia) Michael. He's good at fighting -and- magic, and has a sense of chivalry and Christian charity that extends to both men and women. Thalia just has an exquisite sense of timing and can't be hurt (while she's walking around, anyway). This still doesn't make up for Michael being a trouble attractor.

24) 1 (Firemaker) and 9 (Heart of Peacemaker) reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4(Sky)'s sinister secret organization. 11 (Coravin) volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he/she is actually a spy for 4 (Sky). Meanwhile, 4 (Sky) has kidnapped 12 (Cassidy) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (Manifold), they seek out 3 (Li Kao), who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic? Since Sky's secret organization would -have- to be composed of sentinet wolves, it would have to be Pack of Lies. Or Wolf, Where?
