Really. When we write larps, I do character and plotting. I serve as encyclopedia. I can be a really useful sounding board for "Is the system simple enough? Where will players misunderstand? Where is it likely to crash and burn?"
I don't understand game balance the way I'd need to. I don't understand the Supers genre to get what needs to be done on the mechanics.
agrumer tried to help me with the magic system for my homebrew Cthulhupunk once (no relation to GURPS Cthulhupunk, and in existence a couple of years before it). He sent me a list of things, asking me which of them I wanted magic able to do, from fireballs to turning people int frogs to to turning awful manuscripts into lost Tolkien masterpieces. And my answers tended to be "Aieee! No! Maybe! Sometimes! No -- wait, how will this unbalance things? Help! Aieeee!"
