Slow Progress on Dark of the Moon

zrealm's visit to NYC, I've been working on the next small step in the weekend long larp that's been in progress for over a decade. That is, I'm going over the names of people, places, and things, trying to a) file off any serial numbers and b) make it seem at least vaguely plausible that groups of names from the same country could actually be from the same country.
In the course of this, we may have reached a useful tipping point on a separate issue. There's a character whom zrealm has been urging us to kill, for reasons I won't get into here. The problem was that we all loved this character, which, while it made zrealm's advice more critical, meant that we were less likely to follow it.
Then,
mnemex and I helped zrealm gm Masks. Or, he helped us by giving us experience gming a weekend long larp. By the time Masks was over, for reasons I could not put into words, I understood why zrealm wanted that character gone, and why he was correct.
However, I did not want to push the issue. After all, everyone else loved this character, and we all agreed that being friends is much more important than running this larp. And, I'd already been fairly pushy, by which I mean that I had written the entire current draft of the game, making several decisions, and I had pushed to cut some other characters. It really seemed time other people got to have a say. Time and past time.
And besides, in the scheme of things, it really wasn't that big a deal. If this turns out to be the thorniest issue of the game, we shall all have been very, very lucky.
mnemex didn't have an opinion on the subject. zrealm recently presented an amusing argument for cutting the character. I started sending out lists of suggested name changes.
Today, reviewing the list that included the character in question,
ladymondegreen said that she was starting to come around to the idea of killing the character. Oh, she has some technical concerns, but those are easily addressed.
I'm guessing that
akawil and
sdelmonte won't have strong opinions either way. This leaves
batyatoon. If she really wants the character to stay in the game, we will likely give way, but she is more likely to be persuaded given that the opinions have shifted over the last year.
I can hear zrealm dancing for joy.
