Well, in a small way, at least. Back in the 1990s, John Fast asked me to write a paper on gaming for the International Conference in the Fantastic in the Arts. There were three papers for that panel, and I was very glad that mine was the first. As the first paper, it was so basic that it was a good introduction to the other two. If it had been last, it would have been utterly redundant.

Or so I thought. But, I'm told my paper is quoted in Norway, and now, someone used it in a French Master's Thesis. Check out jhkimrpg's blog.

Mulling about Dogs in the Vineyard

I'm writing a small essay for my zine in Alarums and Excursions about what we're doing with the Dogs in the Vineyard system in Cthulhu High. Got to run it by mnemex.

Technically, I'm not sure we're using the system so much as some of the mechanics. So, I think I'm going to call the essay "Things You Shouldn't Do to a Dog".

But at least one of the weird things I realized turned out to be a mapping problem. If I redefine two of the levels of conflict the way mnemex suggests, things make more sense, and, imao, are much more elegant.

Of course, this means I need to rewrite my essay, but so it goes.
