Giving Polaris a Spin
Aug. 6th, 2006 12:45 amToday, I decided to pick up In Dark Alleys at the Strategist, to encourage the folks there to continue to stock such games and because I wanted the game.
mnemex and
ebartley were with me, and we were joined by
jlighton. We went to Jeollado, took out dessert from Black Hound, went to Brooklyn, and began playing the game What Shall We Play?
jlighton suggested Polaris. We made up characters and played out five scenes. It was slow, but not frustrating.
That is, we've had to look up rules, but we had no trouble finding them, and they made sense. Conflicts were a bit tentative, in part because the Heart tended to like what the Mistaken cooked up. Things got interesting when mnemex as Heart said, "But only if the demon forever after loses the ability to appear fair."
jlighton and I said, "Now, that's a conflict!"
ebartley used the phrase that made the Heart offer an alternative, and picked the on mnemex offered.
We gave jlighton the character sheets so he could do a preliminary write up. We may try to fit in another session before he heads out to GenCon.
